You are invited to a seminar focusing on insights from the ongoing NO‑ALS study, a phase‑II, multicentre, double‑blinded randomized clinical trial investigating NAD‑replenishment therapy in early ALS. The Neuro‑SysMed team will share experiences from the study and highlight key challenges of conducting multicentre randomized clinical trials.
Time and Place
Wednesday, April 22, 11:30–13:00
Auditorium, Armauer Hansens Hus
Join us also for an informal networking lunch from 11:30 to 12:00. The lunch is free of charge, but registration is required by April 20 at 11:00.
About the Seminar
To date, there are no neuroprotective treatments for ALS that significantly affect disease progression. Previous research at Neuro‑SysMed has identified NAD‑replenishment as a promising therapeutic approach. A small published trial combining nicotinamide riboside (NR) and pterostilbene showed encouraging results in ALS, leading to the establishment of the NO‑ALS trial.
During the seminar, the research team will discuss:
- Practical and logistical challenges in multisite RCTs
- Coordination and patient recruitment
- Methodological considerations and quality assurance
- Lessons learned that may benefit future clinical trials
Speakers
- Professor Ole‑Bjørn Tysnes, neurologist at UiB and Haukeland University Hospital, PI for ALS studies at Neuro‑SysMed
- Mari Klauset Holtom, study nurse in the ALS node with extensive experience in clinical studies
