We are excited to present the upcoming activities at the Neuro-SysMed Research School in Translational Neuroscience! Note that deadline in Studentweb is SEPTEMBER 1 for all fall term courses, if you are a student and want the ECTS credits.
NEUROSYSM910: Junior Scientist Symposium (3 ECTS)
The objective is to provide the candidates with valuable skills into oral presentation techniques of own research, as well as dissemination of others research, provide opportunities to engage in scientific discussions, and to take advantage of peer reviews and comments to strengthen the scientific quality of own research and scientific thinking. A main ambition is also to strengthen the scientific networks and to encourage candidates to establish relations to scientists.
Symposium dates:
Academic responsibility: Shamundeeswari Anandan (shamundeeswari.anandan@uib.no). Course coordinators: Yola Gerking (yola.gerking@uib.no) and Håkon Olsen (hakon.olsen@uib.no).

NEUROSYSM930: Applied bioinformatics and data analysis (3 ECTS)
Date: December 8-12, 2025.
Get the knowledge central for successful application of bioinformatics and data analysis in clinical research on human tissue! The course will focus on practical aspects and methodological considerations related to the processing of human derived data genomic and transcriptomic data. The course will be composed of seminars, lectures, and hands-on tutorials given by clinicians and researchers based on real-life scenarios. We will cover basic multivariate statistical tools, choice of appropriate statistical models and model design / choice of covariates. The course will be highly beneficial for all participants with an interest in bioinformatics, biology, medicine, or clinical research in general.

NEUROSYSM940: The nature of disease and suffering and the goal of precision medicine (2 ECTS)
Date: March 26-27 and April 17, 2026.
Precision medicine is changing how we think about health, illness, and treatment by tailoring care to the individual. This course explores the bigger picture: How is precision medicine shaping medical research and practice, and what kinds of questions, challenges, and dilemmas come with it? To make it practical and engaging, participants will bring in cases from their own work and backgrounds. These will form the starting point for discussions and help connect theory to real-world experience.
Academic responsibility: Caroline Benedicte Nitter Engen (caroline.engen@uib.no) and Jan Reinert Karlsen (jan.karlsen@uib.no).
Course coordinator: Justin Haugland-Pruitt (email: justin.haugland-pruitt@uib.no).
