Seminar torsdag 1. desember – Senter for ernæring

Senter for ernæring har gleden av å invitere til et nytt seminar i vår seminarrekke. Serien tar opp sentrale utfordringer innen ernæring og helse.

Tittel: Patient microbiota modulation by fecal transplantation

Foreleser: W. Florian Fricke, professor, University of Hohenheim, Tyskland
Moderator: Simon Dankel
Tid: Torsdag 1. desember 2022 kl. 14.30-15.30
Sted: Aud. 2, BB-bygget / Zoom

Despite the growing recognition of the human microbiome involvement in many infectious, immune and metabolic disorders, our understanding of microbiome organization and function remains largely incomplete. Prof. Fricke’s group uses microbial genomics and develops bioinformatics tools to study the dynamics of the human gastrointestinal microbiota at the level of individual microbial strains. His group is focused on applying these high-resolution microbiome analysis methods to increase our insights into the mechanisms of microbiome establishment after birth, microbiome persistence and stability in infants and adults, and microbiome alterations and dysbiosis in the context of different microbiome-associated diseases. In his recent work, he studied the mechanistic framework of the microbiome assembly process after fecal microbiota transplantation, which can guide the development of new personalized precision microbiome modulation therapies.

W. Florian Fricke is Professor of Microbiome Research and Applied Bioinformatics at the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart, Germany, and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Institute for Genome Sciences, University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He received his Ph.D. at the University of Göttingen, Germany, and was a Post-doctoral Fellow at The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR), Rockville, Maryland.
